Cowboy boots, hats, western clothing – and potentially a couple of American beers. Silverbelly Western is seeking permission to sell Lone Star and Pabst Blue Ribbon from its North Street shop in Crediton.
The new premises licence application relates to Silverbelly Western Ltd at 14 North Street and came before Crediton Town Council’s Community Committee on the 15th September, where councillors were asked to consider and comment on it. The full licence application was included with the meeting papers.
Just two beers are planned
The paperwork gives considerably more detail than the later public notice.
Silverbelly describes the business as a country and western boutique and says it wants to stock Lone Star and PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon).
The application says the beers are already imported for another business operated by those behind Silverbelly and would fit the shop’s western theme. They would be sold alongside items including coolers and festival apparel.
Importantly, the application says there is no intention at present to sell any other alcoholic drinks.
Worth knowing
Silverbelly is not applying to become a bar. The licence is for off-sales only, meaning customers would buy the beer in the shop and take it away to drink elsewhere.
The Sunday hours do not quite match
There is one small wrinkle in the paperwork.
The detailed application gives the proposed alcohol sales hours as 11am–5pm Monday to Saturday, but 11.30am–4.30pm on Sunday.
The later statutory public notice, however, advertises 11am–5pm every day.
Tidings has therefore reported both sets of Sunday hours rather than assuming which would ultimately appear on any licence granted.
What happens next?
The application is still going through the licensing process and should not be treated as approved yet.
Mid Devon District Council is the licensing authority, and the current consultation period is due to close on the 4th of October 2026.
For now, the proposal is a fairly focused one: two American beers added to a westernwear shop, sold for customers to take away.
