One of the main routes through Crediton is closed this morning following a road traffic collision.

Devon & Cornwall Police lists Charlotte Street on the A377 as closed in both directions, between the A3072 Mill Street junction and East Street.

The incident was being shown on the force’s live Traffic Watch service from 5.17am today, Saturday 10th October, and remained listed as an active incident when checked this morning.

Main route through the town affected

Charlotte Street carries the A377 through the eastern side of Crediton and forms part of the main road between the town and Exeter.

Its closure therefore affects more than purely local traffic, with drivers travelling through Crediton also needing to avoid the affected section.

Police Traffic Watch currently gives the reason simply as an accident, but it is believed the incident involves a telegraph pole, which may account for the road continuing to be closed. No further official information has yet been published by the Police about the vehicles involved, whether anyone has been injured, or how long the road is expected to remain closed.

Those details should therefore not be assumed until confirmed.

WHYRoad Traffic Collision

Police incident remains active

Drivers should expect disruption

With Charlotte Street unavailable, traffic moving between the western side of Crediton and the Exeter direction is likely to be displaced onto surrounding roads while the closure remains in place.

Anyone travelling through the town this morning should allow extra time and follow any signed diversion or instructions at the scene.

The police Traffic Watch system is normally refreshed frequently as incidents develop, so the position may change during the morning.

Worth knowing

There is currently no official reopening time. Police are still treating the closure as an active incident, so drivers should check the latest position before travelling.
